 Do you think people are manipulated by the media? Why? Why not?

It is true that we are surrounded by a lot of media information, but I think that you are who decide to accept or refuse the information that you receive. If media could manipulate people, at this time the people would be already educated by the advertisements about the global warming and pollution, and still they aren’t. So, I think that the media shows you the idea, but you are who take the decision to accept it or refuse it.

    1. Because some advertising is so obvious in its desire to just make money, and that’s not something that people want, they study, and have become smarter enough to be persuaded as easy as before. In the other hand, we are exposed to many messages every day, so we don’t care about an important part of them.
    2. Because people don’t want to watch it, and they don’t pay attention, it’s not interesting.
    3. They are making charity, sport events, good deed in general, things that people can admire, so they will appreciate the company and think good things about it, instead telling the people “hey, buy our products”.
    4. When they show something interesting or familiar for us, something nice, well done. For example, Coca Cola advertising, they always show people being happy and together, every wants to be happy and feel loved, so it’s familiar for us, and nice to see.
    5. If it’s done badly, or it’s overused.
    6. Making charity work and its ‘end AIDS red laces’.

We have a ridiculous amount of commercials, it’s difficult put attention to all. And maybe because the people spend more time in internet avoid the commercial in newspapers and TV.
Because, is more easily put the same commercial in the web, without spend a lot of money in TV company’s.
Now, based on the above, the advertising focus in viral marketing and less elaborate commercial than before.
If is funny or epic, and not take a lot of time.

1-Maybe because we are exposed to many content during the day and as we see that much, every time our expectations get higher, and because of that we are not that easily impressed.
2-Because they are not as effective as they used to be, and even scientific studies have proved it.
3- Companies are trying more effective techniques of advertising, with something that really gets the attention of people, not just TV commercials like in the past. They even give products as gifts to costumers so that they spread the word and more people get to know them.
4-When the advertisement has a good message for us, that even if it is not direct, they know our brain will get it because of its deep meaning.
5-When the message is not really clear and people may misunderstand the ideas the company wants us to buy. For example, advertisement with double sense or dark humor.
6- By using its money to invest in charity with its campaign of the red laces.
7- He thinks is good because they care about helping other people and not just making money for them.
8- Because studies have shown that it is not that effective, and because of that it is not worthy to spend a lot of money in that.

I think that people is in fact controlled by the media, because we receive the information the media wants us to know, and sometimes that information is not the truth but something that benefits them or someone that pays them. For example, we watch news to get information about the world, but if the news are fake or bad-intentioned then we will adopt thoughts that may be not the right ones because of a bad influence.

    3. Previously, advertising had specific forms. Now, every possible means of communicating a message is being used and experimented with.

Do you think people are manipulated by the media? Why? Why not?

Of course we are. We receive a lot of subliminal messages every day, so we don’t notice that most of our wishes are put in our mind by the consumerist system that we live. Also we have to remember that most of time the media show us only the information that serves for their purposes, so we have to be careful and search by different sources.

My opinion: I think that we are done with some instrusive marketing that some compannies develop, but we also need it to choose what we want, because if you don't know the brand probably you won't buy it. I agree about the fact that marketing nowadays is very creative and make a lot of funny campaigns.
